The Beguiled, directed by Sofia Coppola, is a film that is full of multiple missed opportunities. There were many chances to have some genuinely compelling, stimulating content to this film. Instead we get characters who lack any depth, a plot that almost feels non-existent and just a general lack of anything of real substance. As someone who is a fan of Sofia Coppola’s previous work, I was surprised at just how empty this whole film felt. But is it all bad? Review – Hidden Figures

Hidden Figures, directed by Theodore Melfi, does a good job in telling the stories of some remarkable women, whose stories have gone unseen. But other than that the film itself is pretty unremarkable; making no real effort to standout from any other biographical film. I actually feel that other than its three main characters, it seems to want to gloss over and demean the work accomplished by everyone at NASA during the time. With quieter more subtle scenes in which people converse in code or sudden bursts of unexpected action – Midnight Special is a film that keeps you guessing as to what the bigger picture is. This level of intrigue makes it a film that up until its very last moments, has you not only gripped by what may happen to the character, but also who or what is pulling the strings.
