The Duel, directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith, is an empty film; void of anything that intrigues or compels you to invest in this film. With a premise that doesn’t lead to anywhere satisfying and characters that play by the book and never really standout – The Duel is a film that just moves along unnoticed, until it inevitably ends. There are certainly some things to breakdown about this film, so let’s get that going. Read more
Review – Dheepan
Dheepan, directed by Jacques Audiard, is a film with an honesty to it; with that, comes the pleasantries, the sadness and the darkness of real life. This is a film that at times almost doesn’t feel like a film, more like a slice of real life. I found myself totally enraptured by Dheepan, and I’m looking forward to breaking down the many stellar elements of it, in this review. So without further a due, let’s begin. Read more
Review – The Shallows
The Shallows, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, is a film with an un-original but still exciting premise within it. However, the film fails to instil any tension, and so much of that is down to the reliance on bad CGI. I was for the most part kept engaged by ‘The Shallows’, but only just. Let’s dive into this review and see where ‘The Shallows’ surfaces. Read more
Review – Evolution
Evolution, directed by Lucile Hadzihalilovic, is a film with a strange mystery running throughout it. Questions, weird imagery and a reserved presentation of it all, make this a film that certainly has your attention. This will be an interesting one to review as there are no clear paths to go down… but let’s try. Read more
Review – Disorder
Disorder, directed by Alice Winocour, is a film with a really compelling central character, however the film loses its way; not only with its main character, but also the overall story. This is a film that starts off with such promise and soon overlooks all of the things that first make it so interesting. Let’s look at the many areas to this film, and see where things went wrong. Review – Jason Bourne
Jason Bourne, directed by Paul Greengrass, is a film with the unrelenting momentum that is now a staple of Greengrass’s style. But this is a film that also comes encumbered with the problems that plague most of his films. There’s quite a bit to breakdown and analyse about this film, and a lot of it isn’t on the positive side. So let’s get this “autopsy” underway. Read more
Review – The BFG
The BFG, directed by Steven Spielberg, is a pleasant film, a film that doesn’t step beyond its expectations. I perhaps thought more of this film – partly because of it being directed by Steven Spielberg – but what you’ll get is a film that is pretty run of the mill. I was never surprised by what ‘The BFG’ offered, but I was certainly enchanted by its content. There are certainly some interesting elements to breakdown and so I might as well get this review underway. Read more
